VacantGazer | what's the criteria ? I don't know if i can say what planets are afflicted in my own chart. |
tgem | Hi VG, a planet is afflicted if it has hard aspects to other planets or angles for instance a square or opposition. I wouldn't consider a conjunction afflicted. Minor aspects like semi-square and sesquisquare, possibly depending on how tight the orb is. Example: I have natal sun square Mars and saturn and opposite uranus. This is considered an afflicted sun. However, my natal jupiter doesn't have any squares or oppositions to other planets or angles so it is not afflicted. |

Wow--didn't realize just one hard aspect would make a planet afflicted. If that's the case--ALL of my planets are afflicted except Neptune--is this normal??? |
VacantGazer | Thanks Tgem. All my planets have squares to them, except saturn and pluto... but they square my MC |

Yes it happens. |

Pluto doesn't really count because it is more of a generational planet; the personal and social planets are the important ones: sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. |

All my personal planets are afflicted - it happens. |
VacantGazer | Thanks Tgem |
hannaramaa | If Sun is square Saturn are both planets afflicted, or just the Sun? |

This is an archaic term of medieval astrology I wish modern astrologers would stop using. It helps keep astrology in the dungeon of despair and doom. It is a relic of times in which there were leper colonies and superstitious anxieties. Modern dictionary ... affliction - something that causes pain or suffering. Is this how we want to approach astrology? It goes to the question of free will and fate. Replace 'afflicted' with 'stressful' or 'driving' aspects and you have a better notion of what is going on. These are aspects in which one is looking for integration and balance of the energies involved, rather than enjoying their free flow from the outset. ------------------

I like that Kannon--Driving sounds more positive. |

Thank you, i see this term alot, so I wanted to know what it meant in astrology. The way you have described makes more sense, I don't feel "afflicted", stressed at times, yes, of course there has been pain at times too, but it's not constant. Yes, as scorpi said, driving sounds more positive than afflicted. |
